Lesson F0.3: Motor Pairs, Speed, and Distance

A movement motor pair treats the left and right drive motors as one drivetrain. Speed is a percentage. Distance can be expressed as wheel rotations, motor degrees, or a measured linear distance. Telemark uses centimeters so the route is easy to compare with a mat.

Higher speed reduces simulated time, but real robots may brake later or slip more. Begin at a moderate speed, measure the result, and change only one value at a time.

Simulator practice

Set speed to 25 percent, drive 30 cm, then drive another 30 cm. Compare that run with one 60 cm move and with a faster speed.

Measure a 50 cm line. Run the robot three times, record the actual distance, and adjust the programmed value rather than guessing at a time delay.
